Spiritually, all things are predetermined and work according to His holy will.
Dr. Wanda Wilburn
Abiding by an external locus of control, the natural progression of my career in medicine
was not by accident. I was the chosen one.
Raised in the City of San Diego, the second of four girls with one brother, the field of medicine began to spark
my interests at a very young age. Unlike most children, my extracurricular readings did not include comic books,
classic tales, or mysteries. Instead, readings about disease, the body, and the mind, encompassed my literary
enjoyment. At the early age of 10, I suffered from a meningioma (benign tumor of the skull). My inquisitive
nature peaked the interest of my physician, who in turn, encouraged me to continue to explore subjects relating
to the field of medicine.
As my life progressed, I attended college. My university major was Biology with a minor in Public Health. Higher
education further clarified my career goals as a medical professional. As a first generation physician, I was also
one of the few college graduates in my community to seek medicine as a profession. My family and friends
continually sought my guidance with their female health concerns.
After graduation from college, I became a Physician’s Assistant specializing in the field of OB/GYN. Twelve
years later, at age 35 (unmarried and without children) my aspiration to be the best--prompted my application to
medical school. Various specialties in the medical field entertained my mind; however, my love for the
specialty of OB/GYN continued to be my preference.
Accepted by my first choice of residency, Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, I completed my
residency and requisite Clinical research. My research projects explored the subjects of Rape in the Pediatric
Population at Grady Hospital and Sicke Cell Anemia in the Pregnant Patient. My residency also provided
exposure to the political issues of medicine. I served as a Georgia ACOG Junior Fellow Chair.
Upon graduation from my residency, I furthered my career at the Morehouse School of Medicine. At Morehouse,
I was an instructor. Many of the OB/GYN residents were from non-traditional backgrounds; thus, my capacities
served not only as an instructor but also as a role model. I then joined a successful two female OB/GYN group in
the suburbs of Georgia. This employment opportunity laid the foundation for my unforeseen role as a solo
practitioner.
A longing to return to California was motivated by my Mother’s failing health and her inability to no longer be
independent. I sold my Georgia home, resigned from a successful OB/GYN practice and returned to San Diego.
Now close again to my beloved family, my Mother suffered a heart attack, which led to her demise. This was the
most catastrophic event I had ever experienced and most importantly a life-changing event.
Seeking peace, tranquilly, and understanding, I relocated to the City of Victorville, California. Once residing in
the City, I was recruited by a faith-based hospital, which afforded me an opportunity to provide women’s
healthcare services to the local communities of the High Desert.
I am now the owner of Genesis OB/GYN (Victorville) and have been recently appointed to the Board of Director’s
at St. Mary’s Hospital (Apple Valley).
Carrying out the duties of a physician, my role in the healthcare industry has crystallized in the direction that my
heart aspires. My life has filled me with many blessings--one of which--the privilege to fulfill the healthcare needs
of the female residents of the High Desert. Through the caring perspective of a much-needed female physician,
I passionately address and serve the women of the High Desert.

My goal is to make a difference in the lives of my patients.
Attending Pepperdine University, I was introduced to the profession of a Physician’s Assistant. Intrigued and inspired, I decided to continue my education in this field of study. My Master’s Degree was earned from Finch University of Health Sciences in Chicago. Since my graduation from medical school, I have continued to treat women in Southern California in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. I love my profession and take pride in providing gentle, compassionate, quality healthcare services to all my new and returning patients.
